Zoom Video Sessions - Your Questions Answered

We know that training via video link is no replacement for being in the Dojo, we'll do what we can to make it as enjoyable and rewarding as possible.

Empty accordion

Left empty deliberately....

Do I have to pay anything?

We are asking students to pay a voluntary monthly fee for the online training.

For those that are in a position to pay, please keep an eye out for an email from your club instructor containing details on how much and how to make payment.

However if Covid-19 has left you with financial uncertainty, we would still like you to join us for the training, free of charge. You don't need to do anything other than turn up at the correct session for your grade, ready to train.

Which instructor will be taking the session?

All of our instructors are getting involved, so you will get to the opportunity to train with different instructors.

What will the sessions cover?

After the initial warm up and stretch, we'll move on to the focus of the week. This could be kicks, strikes, blocks, or kata, or perhaps even an opportunity to test your speed against Sensei Kay with some kumite.

Will I Need Much Space?

We're all a bit space limited at the moment, so training sessions will be planned with that in mind. You will need to move around, however you should be able to do the session in as little as a 2 metre by 2 metre area.... you may need to adjust your footwork as you go, look upon that as an opportunity to get a little lighter on your feet!

I'd like to do more training, can I join a lower grade session?

You are welcome to join any of the sessions up until and including your grade. However please join the lower grade sessions a little later (5 minutes before session starts), just to give priority to the the junior grades in case we reach capacity.

I don't really like being on video....

We feel your pain, but for time being at least, this is where we're at.

A few things that may help to put you at ease

The main video display will be fixed on the instructor leading the session

We will mute you during the session, so we wont be able to hear any noises you do (or don't) make. Kiai's are optional.

We have restricted the ability to record the sessions. What happens on Zoom stays on Zoom

If you really don't want to appear on video but would still like to join the session, then you can choose to turn video off when you first join the meeting... just be ready with your full name and club, so the Meeting Organiser can identify you as a student.

I still don't want to join the sessions.....

No problem, we know that zoom sessions aren't for everyone.

If you log in to the syllabus, we have also added a number of videos covering basics, kata and general fitness, so you can keep up with your training at a time and in way that suits you.

If you have a moment, please also drop your instructor a line just to let them know how you're doing.
